Chicago Trip Highlights: 2019

First Day in Chicago

After arriving, families enjoyed a welcome brunch at one of Chicago’s iconic deep dish restaurants in the heart of downtown Chicago. Then, families took some time settling into their apartments, making sure to get plenty of rest for the first day of classes tomorrow!

Exploring the City

Class Time!

Adapting to the New school

Duunokid students adapted very well to the new school, the University of Chicago's Lab School, where they are taking classes with students from other countries, participating in outdoor activities, and having lots of fun!

Classes

Students take a variety of classes, from Indian Studies to cello, both with their classmates and one on one, depending on each student's interests.

Parent-Child Classes

In a class taught by Professor Alex, the children of Duunokid were involved for the first time in the Parent class. The children were very active in answering questions. May, a parent of Duunokid, said, “Parent-child classes have a magical effect!”

Parent Classes

The parents are not idle! They also are taking English class and discuss issues related to children’s education with experts. One experience was with Professor Larsen, where he discussed with mothers on how parents can do their part in their kids STEM education and gave them advice on how to be a support system to their children.

Parents Love Educational Trips!

Duunokid consistently brings rewarding and fun experiences to families.

Our family loved this trip to Chicago! We were able to experience so much, including taking cello lessons from Ms. Lehnhoff, going to the Shedd Aquarium, and hearing from various speakers. I especially enjoyed the many Q&A sessions available, where I was able to learn how to further my son's education and support him in his journey.

Today, I finished three weeks of language learning perfectly with a presentation! I couldn't have asked for a better or more smooth experience, and I have the Duunokid team to thank for this.

We loved our time with Duunokid at the University of Chicago Lab School! My son gained many good friends and two great teachers, and was excited to bring back and show his handiwork from Maker Space class every day (I have to say the quality is very good, I accidentally turned on the car switch in the middle of the night and it kept on speeding). With Duunokid, we also experienced a taste of the local students and family life- unforgettable memories were made and lots of practical knowledge was gained!

One of our most valuable experiences was with Ms. Lenhoff, who spoke with us about learning music. She asked the parents if they'd learned a musical instrument on their own, and if so, why they hadn't stuck with it? We know that in all learning activities for children, there is a "social" environment where they learn with other people, keeping them interested. But what's special about learning an instrument is that some practice is done by yourself, with yourself. Ms. Lenhoff taught us how to support our kids to stay self-motivated when practicing.

Thanks to Duunokid, we got to go on a special group on a tour of Rockefeller Chapel and visit a musician who plays music with the 72 bells in the bell tower. I took my daughter there again later to let her experience the pleasing sound of different instruments. It was a wonderful experience of different world in a different cultural context.
